The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand Inc. (FIANZ), the national Muslim umbrella organisation, announced today that the Regional Islamic Da'wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) based in Malaysia will be holding its 14th General Assembly in Auckland from 26 November to 30 November 2009. Dr Anwar Ghani, President of FIANZ which is co-hosting the event said that about 60 delegation members from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, The Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Macau, Maldives, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, Myanmar are expected to converge in Auckland on 26 November 2009 to attend the General Assembly. RISEAP was initiated on 11 November 1980 in Malaysia to bring together the Muslim minority countries in East Asia and the Pacific in order to pursue the collective ambitions of their respective Islamic organisations.
Dr Anwar Ghani said that the main objectives of RISEAP, besides promoting international Muslim unity in the spirit of brotherhood for the advancement of Islam, are;
