FIANZ Reacts to The Death of Libyan Leader Gaddafi
21 October 2011
The New Zealand Muslim community has learnt of the death of the Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi and his two sons after a fierce battle in his hometown of Sirte.
The death of Gaddafi brings an end to the eight month revolt against his autocratic regime by the Libyan people.
The loss of lives and destruction of infrastructure and general suffering since the revolt started in February is utterly regretable.
The revolt itself indicates the resolve of the people of Libya to liberate themselves from dictatorship and oppression that characterised the leadership of the country for the past four decades.
FIANZ always shares the aspiration of the Libyan people for a dignified existence and prays that the people, under the leadership of the National Transitional Council will seize the new opportunity to move forward and build a stable nation that will meet the aspirations of the citizens of Libya and Muslim world.
