Islam and the Global Economy Seminar
Islamic countries and populations occupy a significant part of the global economy
but the Islamic approach to economics and business, and the aspects of belief that
impact on Muslim consumers of goods and services, is not well understood in New
Zealand. We produce halal meat for Islamic markets but do we pay sufficient
attention to growth areas such as financial services?
This seminar brings five distinguished speakers from Malaysia to address these
important issues. These perspectives from Malaysia will be complemented by speakers
resident in New Zealand to produce a balanced and nuanced assessment.
The seminar, which will be held in Wellington on Tuesday 13 June, is free and open
to the general public but you will need to register. It is jointly organised by the
Chair of Malay Studies and the School of Marketing and International Business at
Victoria University of Wellington.
